19th Century French Trumeau with Gold Gilt
19th Century French Trumeau. Colorful painting of weary female traveler receiving aid from a local couple near their large French home. Man is pouring the traveler a helpful liquid to help her get back on her feet. Birds fly in the background toward the crew. Mirror in good condition; photograph includes the mirror's reflection of outside canopy. Gold gilt foliate wood carving around perimeter. This unique trumeau is 63”H, 29”W. Trumeau - French term for pier-glass. In the Louis XV period it was traditionally decorated with a painted canvas that was set in the frame above the mirror.
